Poverty and Social Justice Immersion
Built around our poverty simulation Face the Facts: Understanding Urban Poverty, our Poverty and Social Justice Immersion dives deeper into the social justice issues surrounding poverty in Minneapolis and the surrounding area, and empowers students to become advocates of change in their own communities.
Located near the Midtown Global Market our Retreat Center will be your home away from home during your immersion. The Retreat Center is a secure building with dormitory style rooms that can sleep up to 55 people. There are sitting areas and bathrooms with private showers on each floor.
Participants have breakfast provided for them at the retreat center, as well as everything necessary to pack a bag lunch to take with to service sites and educational experiences. We have coolers you may borrow to store your lunches in. We also provide sack bags for lunches, though we do encourage participants to bring reusable lunch bags, if able. Dinner is provided on-site, and offers participants a chance to explore various ethnic cuisines found in the city of Minneapolis. Additionally, the cost of the immersion covers some snacks for your group as well (popcorn, veggies, fruit, cereal bars, etc). If you have particular snacks your group would like to bring you are welcome to do so. If you have special food requests (allergies, gluten-free, etc) make sure to indicate that on the space provided on your registration form.
Our Poverty and Social Justice Immersion is recommended for ages 16+.
